St Peter's Primary School Bentleigh East
At St Peter’s Primary School we understand that every child has a unique set of values, skills and personality traits. Whilst we celebrate this diversity, we also recognise that conflict and issues can arise.
Student wellbeing and social and emotional learning is integrated into everyday life at St Peter’s Primary School. We have a diverse range of strategies and restorative practices which promote positive relationships in the classroom and across the school.
We equip our students with the knowledge, skills and values to enable them to face challenges now, and in the future, with confidence.
Our various wellbeing programs and services include:
-
Lunch time clubs
-
Peer Support
-
Social skills groups
-
Student Representative Council
-
On site Psychologist (employed by the school two days a week)
Buddy Program
The Buddy Program refers to a program where younger children are paired with older children to support a smooth transition for children starting school.
All Foundation students are allocated a Year 5 Buddy to support their transition to Primary school. Similarly, all Year 1 students are paired with a Year 6 Buddy to support their return to school after the summer holidays. Buddies meet regularly throughout the school year and complete fun activities together. These include: Literacy activities, games, craft projects, lunchtime picnics and visits to Centenary Park.
Benefits of the Buddy Program include:
-
Junior students having a positive role model within the school
-
Junior students have someone to visit at school when they feel sad or worried or upset.
-
Promoting and developing leadership skills in senior students
-
Junior students develop a sense of security and belonging within the school
-
Senior students taking on and developing responsibility
Additional Programs
At St Peter’s Primary School we believe that when our students are confident, resilient and happy they are better placed in a position to form positive habits that will enable them to face challenges in the future.
We do this by offering a number of various wellbeing activities throughout the year that foster learning, growth and leadership within our school community.
